Why has trauma become such a buzzword? │The Anxiety Therapist Vlog
Trauma is related to anxiety in several ways. Trauma can cause symptoms that overlap with anxiety, such as hypervigilance, sleep disturbances, and intrusive thoughts. Additionally, anxiety can be a common response to the stress and uncertainty that often follow a traumatic event. PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) and CPTSD (Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) are two closely related conditions that are both caused by experiencing traumatic events.
PTSD is typically associated with a single traumatic event, such as a natural disaster, combat exposure, or sexual assault. Symptoms can include re-experiencing the traumatic event through flashbacks or nightmares, avoidance of reminders of the event, and hyperarousal.
CPTSD, on the other hand, is generally associated with ongoing or repeated trauma, such as childhood abuse, domestic violence, or human trafficking. In addition to the symptoms of PTSD, CPTSD can also include difficulties with emotional regulation, self-esteem, and interpersonal relationships. Watch the full video to learn more!
